The Saganaki on Fire from Wine Bar George is the best ways to start your meal!
We recently visited Wine Bar George and naturally, we had to start our meal off with Saganaki on Fire. For those who may be confused as to what the Saganaki on Fire is – it’s melty cheese that has a crispy top layer and is served with crostini. The dish is actually set on fire at the table for show and also to melt the cheese.
The cheese used in this dish is Vlahotori Cheese, which comes from Greece and is usually aged for 90 days. Metaxa – a unique Greek Brandy – is poured around the Vlahotori and is what is set on fire. The fire is then extinguished with a squeeze of lemon juice.
I will leave you with a “secret menu hack” when visiting Wine Bar George. Order your Saganaki on Fire with a side of the tomato nage that comes with the Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites. Prepare your crostini like a mini pizza and you have yourself the most delicious bite imaginable!
